Experience
Engage Executive English was created for intermediate and advanced non-native English speakers who need confident English in their work and life. Many of my students have tried traditional teaching and it simply didn’t work for them. I I have spent 22 years and thousands of hours teaching businesspeople, civil servants and entrepreneurs in Asia. When I started in 2000 I used the traditional methods, students moved quickly from topic to topic, spent far too much time on grammar and not enough time speaking. I noticed the students’ boredom and lack of engagement and changed my methods.
Concept
At Engage Executive English the focus is on the students’ needs and the coaching is customized to work at the edge of the students’ ability and comfort zone. The 80/20 rule states that you will spend 80% of your time on 20% of your tasks. It’s the same principle in your English. That’s why a customized, student-centered approach works best.
We view the teacher as being more of a coach/consultant, where they work long time with their students to support, guide and motivate their students and help them achieve their goals. The classes are structured yet unstructured enough to give the students the freedom to try things in a warm, relaxed environment. This approach has been very popular at many famous Asian, European and American companies.
Results
Many of my present and past students have enjoyed great success in their careers, with their English a major factor. By reaching new levels in their businesses or careers they’ve given their families of far better lifestyle. We celebrate their achievements when they successfully give a major report or presentation, past an interview with flying colors and get their dream job, or build deeper relationships with their overseas customers.
Personal Life
I moved back to Canada in 2018 with my wife and kids. We play tennis, soccer and hockey together and my boys have learned thousands of English words through their passions, mainly the video game Minecraft. That’s how business English should also be learned, through engaging, interesting, relevant content that stimulates the student. I created this company to give more students the opportunity to learn through their passions.

Teacher Jason has taught me for six months and has helped me greatly in my career. I work for a Danish company in Taiwan and regularly write emails and have regular phone calls and ZOOM meetings in English. We review my old emails every week. Jason shows me my errors and explains how I made the error. His knowledge of Mandarin is very useful in finding the cause of the error. The number of errors I make has fallen dramatically over the past few months.
If I have a presentation to give Jason tells me to prepare for the class as if it were the real presentation. He lets me present like I normally would and corrects my grammar, pronunciation, intonation, and the logical order of sentences. We practice several times and he’ll record it for me. I recently spoke to an ex-colleague from the Ukraine. After a one-hour conversation he said, “Congratulations!” to me. I asked why. He said that I used to say sorry all the time for my bad English and didn’t say sorry once. I am very thankful for Jason’s help.
